During my long journey to personal wisdom, which is still underway and no end in sight, I read that “one cannot step into the same river twice”.
The same applies to every startup entrepreneur who wants to be ‘disruptive’.
So let me portray this in story.
A river emerges from a mountain stream, it has forced its way through geology and found a soft spot, often limestone. It’s inevitable that this small stream will eventual find its way into the large ocean where opportunity exists to be bigger, huge, powerful. The long river surges forward, it tears at its igneous bed rock disrupting all that it passes in its efforts to reach the ocean. The ocean is far, the river in its urgency upturns boats that try to navigate its waters and angry waves plot furrows into growing maize. It’s a long and often destructive journey.
